Plastic Bottle Manufacturing Process

plastic bottle manufacturersPlastic containers are essential to the packaging needs of many industries. Cosmetics packaging requires plastic jars for makeup and skincare products. Pharmaceutical packaging necessitates plastic bottles to hold vitamins and other medicines. And food and beverage packaging makes effective use of all sorts of plastic containers, such as plastic bottles for water and plastic jars for use as deli containers. Everyone knows the importance of plastic packaging. Still, while such knowledge could be useful to companies, few people actually know how plastic containers are made.

Plastic bottle suppliers have several methods at their disposal. The most popular of these methods are extrusion blow molding, injection blow molding, stretch blow molding, injection molding, and co-extrusion. Each has its strengths. And knowing these can help to choose the right company when you are looking for a plastic container distributor...

Extrusion blow molding is a way to make high-performance containers with a low weight and cost. First, round hollow tube (parison) is formed by an extruder. A mold cavity composed of two halves closes around the parison and punches off one end. Then, compressed air shapes the container, it cools, and excess plastic is trimmed.

Injection blow molding is performed in three stages. First, melted plastic is injected into a mold to produce a parison. Compressed air then blows through a core pin to expand the mold. Finally, the container is transferred to a third station for ejection.

Stretch blow molding is used to make stiff containers which are low in weight. It is often used for carbonated beverage plastic containers. It involves stretching a parison biaxially during blow molding to orient and align the molecules.

Injection molding is used to make wide mouth containers such as plastic jars, tubs, and vials. Material is injected into a cavity where pressure forces the resin to conform to the mold body. These plastic containers are produced without scrap.

Co-extrusion is the newest of plastic bottle blowing technology. It involves sandwiching various plastic resins together with tie layers to produce bottles with barrier and heat-stable qualities suitable for use with hot-filled, hermetically sealed food products. Possible applications include: juices, sauces, jams, toppings, mayonnaise, and pickled products.

Knowing the many ways that container suppliers make their products will help you pick the right company for your packaging needs. This overview of the plastic bottle, jar, and jug distribution process should provide you with the necessary knowledge to do so!
